Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor.

Responsibilities
Provide strong technical leadership and management skills to the ground applications group of system and software engineers in support of satellite operations for Civilian and National Security Space Applications. Technically contribute to one or more projects. Share responsibility for quality assurance of the group's technical products. Help ensure that the group meets all technical, programmatic, and quality commitments. Assist the group supervisor with staff development, including hiring, performance reviews, salary administration, career coaching, training and mentoring. Help manage resources (both personnel and budgets), recommend personnel assignments, lead staff planning, and contribute to other group-level decisions. Effectively interact with both branch management and group staff. Assist in developing technical direction and vision for the group. Help develop strategy, business plans, proposals, and IRADs. Investigate new technical growth areas needed for upcoming missions.

Qualifications

Required:
BS/MS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field. Minimum 10 years of professional experience. Strong leadership, organization, planning, oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with sponsors, program managers, and members of external organizations. Demonstrated record of accomplishment as a technical contributor and leader. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to lead a team of engineers in architecture development, requirements refinement, and design of complex software systems. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Desired:
Experience with the ground segment of space systems. Proven ability to write technical papers and deliver presentations. Experience with business development and sponsor engagement. Experience as a line supervisor of technical professionals. Experience administering and using Laboratory and Space Department policies, procedures, best practices, and business systems, especially performance reviews, salary administration, and the Resource and Management Information System (RMIS).

Special Work Conditions
Some off hours and extra time may be required when critical launch milestones must be met.

Security
