Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Engineer.

Responsibilities
Job Description - Provide full range of software support to the Ocean Engineering Program (OEP) Office including development and maintenance of custom software and hardware systems installed on U.S. Navy submarine platforms. Participate in team activities associated with the OEP role as lead systems integrator for a major Navy system acquisition program.

Duties - Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain real-time mission critical software and hardware systems for the U.S. Navy. Support the software development process which includes developing software documentation and utilizing software configuration control. Support system integration and test activities, some at remote facilities, and transition of systems to government or industry.
Qualifications

Required - Must have BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and a minimum of three years of full life cycle software development experience. Experience in an object oriented language such as Java or C++ and familiarity with Networking and desktop application development. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or Polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.

Desired - Experience with GIS mapping software and/or API's. Experience with database and middleware. Experience with U.S. Navy programs and procedures. Willingness to travel and participate in at-sea testing.

Special Work Conditions
Must be able to work in a closed SCIF area with small team of group members. Some field support on both coasts and Hawaii is required.
