Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Chief Engineer.
Responsibilities
The VES Group is dedicated to providing the design and development of leading edge capabilities for next generation intelligent enterprise-scale IT, including content, communications, and services. The successful Chief Engineer will develop and oversee best software engineering practices in the Group, ensuring the quality of product and the efficiency of staff. Designs and advises group supervisor on how activities are being executed across the group against the group vision. Looks for linkages that should be made between activities within the group and with activities of other groups. Ensure the quality of technical team products in accordance with APL¿s QMS processes. Plans, Schedules, Leads Tech Reviews. Mentor and coach team members. Provide and guide staff development opportunities. Evaluate the performance of team members. Assist higher-level managers with staff and task planning, group strategic planning and new business initiatives. Participates in interview and hiring of new staff for the section.
Qualifications
Required:
- MS or Ph.D.in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated expertise in technologies associated with information management and discovery and/or service-based enterprise technologies.
- Knowledge of development and standards and evaluation methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, mentor and coach.
- Demonstrated strength in communication skills - both verbal and written.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
Desired:
- Proven history of successful and critical contribution to DoD and/or IC customers in system/knowledge engineering.
- Expertise in information systems technologies that assist with life cycle needs such as feasibility study, requirements analysis, design, performance evaluation, and configuration management.
- Familiarity with automated tools within this field.
- Expertise in information systems analysis and development methodologies such as CMMI, RUP, PMI, and Agile.
Special Work Conditions
Some travel may be required to support business meetings.
