Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Assistant Program Manager.

Responsibilities
Job Description
Assist the JHU/APL DNDO Program Manager in managing and directing tasks for the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office's Directorates.

Duties
Interface closely and frequently with DNDO government staff in understanding program direction, goals and timelines and be able to translate into actionable tasks for APL project managers and staff. Stay one step ahead by anticipating needs far into the future. Clearly communicate APL's capabilities to help the sponsor resolve and anticipate problems. Interface with National Laboratories and Vendor organizations. Respond to emerging program needs and priorities, for example, accelerated test schedules, updated analysis timelines, or support of field events/tests. Contribute to the development and mentoring of project managers and technical leads through the effective delegation of authority and responsibility. Ensure consistent and effective communications with project managers, technical leads, and technical staff to execute the objectives of their respective tasks. Provide technical thought leadership to APL program staff. Develop a trusted relationship within the APL community (e.g. other program area managers, technical leaders, group supervisors, contracts personnel). Organize, lead and assure execution of program tasks. Assure quality of all products.

Qualifications
Required
MS in physics, computer science, EE, or equivalent. At least 10 years experience of which 3 are as Project Manager or Technical Lead for group of five to ten engineers and scientists. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and oral communications skills, and strong analytical and organizational skills. Demonstrated initiative, motivation, and flexibility. Demonstrated ability to develop business as an individual and as part of a team.

Desired
PhD in physics, computer science, EE, or equivalent. Knowledge of radiation/nuclear detection technical capabilities and facilities. Proven track record through publication An understanding of the DHS infrastructure, organization and culture.

Special Work Conditions
CONUS travel (4 times per year), in some cases travel may be extended (several concurrent weeks). Local trips to Washington DC (once/week).

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
