Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Aerosol Scientist.
Responsibilities
Job Description
Design and conduct aerosol experiments for the evaluation of biological and chemical detection and collection systems.
Duties
Conduct and direct aerosol tests evaluating the performance of biological and chemical collection and detection systems both in house and offsite. Analyze data and document test procedures and results. Work with other scientists and engineers in the design of novel collection and/or analysis techniques and/or hardware. Present test results to coworkers and sponsors.
Qualifications
Required
BS in Physical Sciences or related engineering discipline. Experience working with aerosol measurement and generation equipment. Ability to work effectively as member of multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to collect,, analyze and interpret aerosol test data. Applicants will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
Desired
Hands on experience in test and evaluation of biological or chemical detection systems. Demonstrated proficiency in Matlab, Excel, Microsoft Word, and LabVIEW. Experience in developing instrumentation and the application of COTS equipment to sensor systems. Experience working in a BSL2 and/or aerosol laboratory environment. Demonstrated experience in biosafety practices and procedures. Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical or electrical systems. Demonstrated understanding of hardware/software integration requirements for aerosol collection, detection or test systems.
Special Work Conditions
Bio-Safety Level 2 working conditions. Occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and field support (2-3 trips per year).
