Position Overview:
A registered professional nurse certified as a Kansas Advanced Registered Nurse practitioner functioning as an adult practitioner specialized in oncology. The NP is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care under the medical direction of a collaborative practice physician.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES JOB DUTIES AND PROJECTS:
1. Perform comprehensive and episodic history and physical assessments including a psychosocial assessment on all patients presenting for mobile health services.
2. Diagnose disease states and develop appropriate treatment plans which include prescribing appropriate medications per written protocols.
3. Order perform and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing as appropriate.
4. Perform screenings to prevent illness and promote wellness.
5. Maintain current knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
6. Determine eligibility of patients for entry into KBCCI Susan G. Komen or other grant funding and charity available from time to time.
7. Triage patients to determine urgency of physician's evaluation.
8. Know own limitations and consult with the physician when appropriate.
9. Demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of care provided to patients.
10. Provide case management for all patients screened through the mobile clinic.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
11. Develop rapport with patients families and/or extended caregivers.
12. Develop a team environment with technical and clinic staff including physicians.
13. Participate in staff meetings to identify evaluate and solve problems particularly those of a mobile environment.
14. Work cooperatively with the business staff in handling billing issues and all financial aspects of services provided in the mobile clinic.
15. Works with third party payers on reimbursement issues when necessary.
16. Provide or arrange patient and family teaching verifying proper documentation.
17. Identify resources and coordinate referrals for patients and families.
18. Serve as an advocate in addressing patient needs and cancer care issues.
DOCUMENTATION SKILLS
19. Document the assessment and treatment plan clearly and concisely in the patient chart in a timely manner.
20. Complete charge documents clearly and accurately.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS
21. Provide formal and informal education to oncology staff.
22. Supervise the clinical performance of other nursing and allied health staff.
23. Collaborate with all members of the health care team.
Education Requirements:
Graduate of an Accredited school of Nursing. Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse and completion of Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of five years as an RN and one as a Nurse Practitioner or three years as a Nurse Practitioner.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/ REGISTRATION: Current Kansas license as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. OCN or AOCN preferred.
