Position Summary:
Manager is part of core team in the design and implementation of Via Christi West Wichita Hospital. Responsible for selection of staff and implementation of the service structure as well as maintaining the patient centered culture of the hospital. Responsible for the management of multiple aspects within the patient care environment. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining clinical standards of care and is accountable for appropriate staffing resources to provide quality patient care. Position will spend approximately 70% of time in management functions and 30% hands-on in the unit participating in patient care.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

· Deliver the ideal patient experience through a customer centric approach with patient satisfaction scores in the top quartile.
· Ability to operate and maintain department within 5% of flex budget.
· Create and maintain a culture of excellence characterized by positive relationships with staff physicians and peers along with a willingness of all to strive for their best leading to employee engagement scores in the top quartile of healthcare best practices.
· Through good leadership practices staff development and hiring of new talent be able to keep department turnover rate at or below 10%.
· Diligently maintain compliance with all Joint Commission and other regulatory compliance requirements by keeping “recommendations for improvement” or other deficiencies at a minimal acceptable level.
· Plans for the provision of care by making patient care assignments.
· Seeks ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment.
· Provides consultation to staff on clinical care issues.
· Participates in budget preparation/monitoring and the identification of workload variability to predict and plan for appropriate staffing to enhance productivity/efficiency and maintain quality care.
· Identifies ways to improve customer service streamline care processes and lower costs.
· Monitors quality of care and any problems/concerns that would impede quality care by interacting with patients/families and monitoring care provider's competency on an ongoing basis.
· Participates in administering personnel issues according to standards including mentoring coaching and evaluation and documentation of performance including performance concerns.
· Demonstrates the ability to reduce as well as manage risks to reduce and or prevent crises.
· Performs skillfully in life threatening emergencies including matching demands and resources during crises situations.
· Be willing and able to design and then operate a service unit using Via Christi procedures and protocols
· Ensure your unit is properly staffed with qualified motivated and engaged employees who can get things done while maintaining compliance
· Clearly communicate and nurture the culture that is being developed
· Ensure your unit’s equipment is up-to-date and functional per applicable guidelines
· Provides advocacy protection and support for patient rights family involvement and patient/family decision making.
· Demonstrates clinical expertise in provision of care in the clinical specialty of assigned unit with the ability to perform all functions of the staff RN role.
Management Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing and hiring employees; training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Able to successfully drive the strategic and operational plan within areas managed. Be available 24/7 as needed.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
·Have at least 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible positions in a Nursing Unit preferably in an acute care setting. Includes a minimum of 2 years staff nurse experience required with additional 3 years of management preferred.
·A Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited College or University required. Masters degree in nursing or management desired.
