Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this job is to direct the Imaging Research Core Facility for CIBOR. Oversight and expertise in a broad range of imaging fields will be required including confocal microscopy scanning electron microscopy and micro computerized tomography. This senior scientist will help to generate external support for research monitor and direct activities of the Imaging Labs and support all functions of CIBOR projects.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Other duties may be assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Direct research in the area of imaging and image analysis including lab management of all microscopy and x-ray based imaging.
- Pursue studies to develop orthopaedic devices materials systems and instruments for orthopaedic surgery and clinical practice.
- Assume responsibility as principal investigator when requested by CIBOR management for the generation of CIBOR projects and contract.
- As co-investigator support other Core laboratories in the development and execution of CIBOR research.
- Participate in training of faculty staff and orthopaedic residents in biomaterial imaging and related areas.
- Prepare technical reports for contract purposes and articles for publication in peer-reviewed technical presentations at major national/international meetings and support other Institute investigators to do the same.
- Monitor all activities in the Core Imaging Laboratory suite. These activities will include equipment use and maintenance and compliance with applicable safety measures.
- Assist and support CIBOR leadership in their administrative duties.
- Assume responsibility for protection of intellectual property and inventions through timely disclosure and patenting and compliance with ISO requirements.
- Liaise with the Faculty and staff of NIAR and the Departments of Biology and Mechanical Engineering at WSU to forward the goals of the Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic research.
- Pursue professional recognition by active participation in technical/medical society activities. (This does not include reimbursed consulting or related professional services independent of CIBOR.)
Management Responsibilities:
Oversight of technical staff responsible for microscopy and imaging.
Education and/or Experience
- Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) in Biomedical Engineering Biophysics or an image intense discipline is required.
- MD or training or education in Medicine would be an advantage.
- At least 5 or more years of related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for exceptional individuals.
