JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for ensuring the wholesomeness of produce, salads, and bakery products. Follows guidelines for preparation and storage of food items for patients, cafeteria, and catering requests.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs cooking tasks and monitors quality.
- Promotes and supports all Team Mercy standards of quality customer service.
- Promotes continuous quality improvement in operations and in job performance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Experience in institutional or restaurant salad and desert preparation is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Familiar with cooking and preparation terms and procedures. Able to properly operate standard kitchen equipment and compute amounts of recipe items. Form perception and color discrimination are required to detect differences in appearance of food. Familiar with portion control techniques. Good communication skills and the ability to speak, write and understand English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Finger and manual dexterity and motor control coordination required to manipulate kitchen utensils skillfully. Able to lift and carry heavy pans and ingredients. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and be able to lift, push, bend and carry loads of up to 50 pounds. Requires sufficient dexterity to handle dishes, trays and other equipment safely. Ability to work in a fast paced, stressful environment.
