Job Description:
Applications Engineer A background with capital equipment is desired. To work with the Engineered Services Group and Designers, Sales Engineer and Applications Director in all areas of equipment sales opportunities.
Will include:
Development of the process strategy, equipment basis of design, cost estimating, proposal generation, proposal drawings and other associated documentation, development of the sales order hand-off package and coordinator of the kick-off meeting.
Job Responsibilities:
Review Request for Quotes (RFQ), Request for Proposals (RFP) and bid documents to meet the requirements of the RFQ/RFP. Coordinate the development of the equipment proposal by working with the Sales Engineer and Applications Director. Develop equipment basis of design documents for each unit of operation in a quote/proposal. Run hand calculations to size and select all of the necessary equipment. Develop the process strategy, including the process flow diagram, mass balance calculations and ionic balance calculations. With the assistance draftsperson, develop a proposal drawing deck, (PFDs), (P&IDs) and general arrangement drawings to be sent with the quote/proposal or to be used for cost estimating. Compile the quote/proposal, including the final pricing, drawing deck and other requested documentation, and coordinate the presentation of the proposal with the customer. Develop cost estimate templates, proposal unit of operations descriptions templates, equipment P&ID templates and a parts database to increase quoting efficiency. Knowledge of key design standards including UL, CSA, NEMA, NFPA 79, IEC, ASTM, ANSI, etc. . Conduct the kickoff meeting for all new sales orders by reviewing the hand-off package with the capital projects team. Participate in training activities for Associates to improve their familiarity and capabilities in equipment applications. Work with production/purchasing to develop the budget versus actual cost variation report, and use this information to update the cost estimate templates. Maintain solid communications and relationships with customers. And other responsibilities assigned to insure the timely completion of projects.
Job Requirements:
Preference is a four year degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or similar program with 3 to 10 years of relevant experience. Can perform design calculations for a variety of mechanical devices, including demineralizers, packed bed ion exchange and other complex equipment. Has excellent technical writing skills and can write technical proposals and documents. Proficient with Microsoft Office software and RO Design software; Ion Exchange software Travel of up to 15 will be required.
