Job Overview
The purpose of this position is to execute the daily tasks, functions, and responsibilities of the Material Control Department. This will be completed by satisfying internal and external customer demands and expectations and in accordance with Plexus Corp.?s goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
1. A high degree of written and verbal communication is required. This would include, but is not limited to, Department Staff Members, Manufacturing, Corporate Department Members, Program Managers, Finance, Purchasing, Shipping, Central Procurement, Accounting, Quality, MIS, MSI, Personnel, and Receiving. Communicates with the Material Control Supervisor to obtain direction, assistance, and to address concerns.
2. Assist with the control and management of WIP inventory and locations to reduce inventory costs, while increasing inventory accuracy, flexibility, and integrity.
3. Receipt and close open WOs to ensure WO integrity, verify material usage, and accurate reflect inventory levels.
-Complete daily WO receipt transactions and researching problems to ensure WO integrity.
-Complete daily transactions to close the open WO based on complete receipt or other approved means. -Generate WO variance reports to reflect true material usage.
-Communicate with Manufacturing to ensure the timely return of material to Receiving and NCM to better control WO variance issues.
-Analyze and resolve unacceptable variances within 5 business days to resolve discrepancies.
-Analyze and resolve FS location inventory issues within 2 business days to resolve discrepancies.
-Research "unacceptable" material usage variances to control inventory and reduce costs. ("Unacceptable" defined by business unit.)
-Communicate with Manufacturing in resolving Aging WO material issues/problems.
4. Oversee the manufacturing material process for component issues on open WOs. to increase Manufacturing efficiencies and optimize Purchasing efforts.
-Identify and verify WIP/system negatives daily for system accuracy, integrity and Material Control efforts.
-Communicate unplanned shortage issues and resolutions to applicable personnel to ensure sound decisions are made.
-Enforce corporate policies and procedures to increase consistency among the corporation.
5. Maintain the following WIP inventory locations: floor stock (FS), line side (LS), Kan Ban, Service and any other location(s) directly related to the production floor. This will ensure Purchasing has accurate buying information and Manufacturing has appropriate material to build product.
-Resolve daily discrepancies and problems to increase inventory accuracy and integrity.
-Communicate inventory changes to Purchasing to request replenishment components.
-Update WOs when there is a WO to WO transfer to ensure accuracy.
-Complete appropriate transactions to maintain inventory integrity and resolve discrepancies.
-Complete FS cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy. This includes completing the physical count, data entry, reconciling discrepancies, and being accountable for results.
6. Support the WIP cycle count program to accurately track and report product/material movement and inventory. This function includes, but is not limited to: Completing daily WIP cycle counts, completing all WIP cycle count transactions, reviewing and analyzing the cycle count variances to improve accuracy, being accountable for results, and resolving discrepancies. This is done in accordance with Accounting guidelines, to ensure proper material control and WO integrity is maintained for the WIP cycle count program.
7. Monitor and follow-through on daily ECN/BOM changes, for open WOs to update inventory requirements and ensure proper/timely disposition of inventory.
8. Ensure shipment credits done by Accounting personnel are transacted to its appropriate location or WO.
9. Participate on special projects and committees as needed to assist in the development of corporate and department goals and objectives.
10. Serve as a back up for the Material Control Supervisor, when applicable, to ensure department functions and responsibilities are completed.
11. Additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- A Bachelors degree in a related field or Associate Degree with adequate experience is desired.
- Membership or certification in a professional materials organization, such as APICS, is preferred.
- 1-3 years of similar or related experience, with strong computer skills, is preferred depending on education level.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Employee must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
- Organizational skills, problem-solving skills, attention to details, a positive attitude, and computer literacy of computer packages and mainframe systems including MS Word, Excel, MS Mail, JDE are essential.
