The Application and Development position is responsible for translating the needs of our customers and sales staff into thermoplastics products that meet their requirements. The applicant must have appreciable understanding of thermoplastic compounding operations as well as knowledge of fillers, modifiers and additives. They must understand mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical properties of thermoplastics, part design criteria, as well as agency approval processes in automotive, industrial and electrical markets.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide all levels of technical support to customers including material selection, processing information, part performance troubleshooting. Participate in trials of new materials with customers, including process troubleshooting and interface to resolve any quality, technical and part performance issues.
- Investigate application requirements from the customer, gather all technical data for customer requirements and recommend suitable APNA materials to customers.
- Understand relevant ASTM and ISO testing methodologies and how that information translates to the customers unmet needs.
- Capable of understanding mold flow simulations and failure mode analysis as it relates to automotive applications
- Devise experiments to verify the suitability of developments to meet customer requirements.
- Have fundamental understanding of Polypropylene and TPO's, filled and reinforced PP, PA, PPE and POM.
- Have detailed knowledge of thermoplastic compounding operations
- Have suitable listening and presentation skills for communicating concepts and ideas to and from customers in order to translate that information into successful products
BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer, Material Science or related field with minimum 5 yrs. relevant experience
