Manager of Business Development - Automotive Market

Department:Compound Division

Detroit Area including suburban cities

Our client is a multi-billion dollar global chemical corporation with a domestic US office in the northeast. They need a Business Developer out of Michigan who has experience with application sales into the automotive market. Experience with global travel preferred as well as Japanese language skills.


1. General Position Summary:

This position is responsible for developing new customers and new applications, hence expanding sales of the Specialty Polymers in the North America including Canada,Mexico and the South America as well as providing customer service and support, and performing administrative functions as necessary in order to achieve the Companys objectives. The market and field in this business is mainly focusing on automotive accounts.

2. Essential Job Functions:Primary Job Functions 90%

Provides Support and Assistance for MTP (Mid Term Plan) and Budget- by assisting the planning and development of the MTP and Budget creation by providing sales results, forecast in sales and budget, pricing and products inventory information to the Supervisor under the cooperation with other relevant members in the company.

Implement and Achievement of the MTP and Budget

- by achieving the targets set in the MTP and Budget;

- by making reasonable decisions in authorized areas with Supervisors accord;- and by maintaining excellent team work with mutual respect and avoid conflict.

Increases Sales

- by increasing revenue in the Specialty Polymers Products;

- by collecting and analyzing sales trends, operating efficiency, merchandise delivery,best practices, and customer demands;

- by identifying and tracking market trends especially in automotive industry;

- by providing information to assist with sales proposals and various reports to Supervisors and Management;

- by maintaining existing customers base while building better relationships with potential customers for future business;

- by working with Division Staff to support existing customers;

- by providing excellent, timely customer service;

- by negotiating with customers for the best terms; - and by reaching established targets.

Manages Accounts and Provides Customer support

- by acting as customers primary contact for support; by regularly visiting and communicating with customers;

- by identifying key decision makers within each customer company and developing positive business relationships with customers;

- by providing technical, quality, manufacturing and engineering product support to customers;

- by monitoring forecast, product sales performance and regularly providing Management with analysis and feedback;

- and by following up on delinquent and overdue receivables.

Development of New Business

- by identifying new potential customers through internal (under the cooperation with other divisions business directors , managers and colleagues working in Japan) and external research (research companies information, information from existing customers) based on specific projects or ordinary activities,

- by identifying key-persons with new potential customers through interviews with their employees.

- by creating necessary information such as presentation documents, technical information documents, quotation documents etc.

- by introducing our products to key persons identified effectively to lure them to the products through telephone conference, video conference, a meeting in person and a presentation ,etc.

- by verifying customers requirements if they would meet our products specifications including minor modifications of existing product or development of new grades, and pricing through above communications.

- by providing potential customers with necessary samples (plates, pellets, powders, stock shapes, real products and so on) for customers testing, evaluations and investigations on the products through sample application procedure.

- by updating customers progress on each testing, evaluation and investigation with necessary information, followed by reporting to Supervisor and those applicable.

- by arranging new business commencement with a credit approval (including acquisition of tax exemption certification and credit assessment by D&B), MSDS delivery, price setting, etc. in corporation with Customer Service and relevant sections.

- by preparing necessary domestic stocks of products to meet customers demand, and having a consultation with Supervisor in requesting Headquarter to prepare necessary inventory or production.

- by concluding necessary contracts like a non-disclosure agreement, a supply and purchase agreement, a development agreement, a delivery specifications and other kind of agreements or letter of intents.

Provides Technical Support to the North Americas including Canada, Mexico and the South Americas

- by providing necessary technical information and support to customers in the North Americas including Canada, Mexico and the South Americas in person, and by phone, fax, and e-mail with products brochures, technical documents, sample plates, pellets, tec.;

- by acting as liaison to connect customers and relevant personnel in the company (R&D, Laboratory, Headquarter, Accounting, Supervisor, etc.) by providing feedback(specifications, regulatory information, price, terms & conditions etc.), and responding to customers in a timely manner.

- by providing quality control support and ensuring product specifications meet customer requests and expectations;

- by providing customers with regulatory compliance documentation (MSDS) upon request;

Ensures Product Compliance

- by ensuring Staff activities adhere to the Company's compliance system;

- by performing product control;

- by reporting, documenting, and filing reports, as necessary;

- by studying, understanding and complying with existing and new Anti-trust law, EPA,FDA, DOT (Transportation), DOT (Treasury), OSHA, federal, state, and other health, safety, and compliance regulations, and practices;

- by taking necessary training from experts, and necessary internal and external training sessions designated by the company and Supervisor.

- by reading , understanding and complying with existing and renewed MCA Regulatory Compliance Policy

- and by advising Senior Management as necessary.

Keeps Supervisors Informed by reporting problems, troubles and difficulties immediately to Supervisors verbally or in writing, in order to avoid confusion, misunderstanding, miscommunication and problems; and by regularly updating Supervisors of work progress and or status.
Complies with Internal Policies and Legal Requirements by following existing and new internal policies; by studying and understanding existing and new compliance regulations, and practices; by anticipating future regulations; by

enforcing adherence to requirements; by reporting, documenting, and filing reports, as necessary; and by advising Management as necessary.

Manages Time and Resources

by using time efficiently, prioritizing and focusing work duties; by using resources provided by the Company ( i.e. financial resources, information tools and other materials) in an effective and efficient manner.

Manages Tasks

by taking the appropriate actions to ensure that tasks are accomplished accurately and by the designated deadline.

3. Essential Job Requirements:

Requirements & Working Environment

Travel

The Staff Member must be able to travel (both domestic and international) extensively for extended periods on business or work beyond normal business hours including weekends as necessary.

Valid drivers license is required.

Minimum Qualifications Needed

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, website information and/or government regulations in English. Those abilities in Japanese are also preferable.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Managers, Staff, clients, customers, and the general public in English without any misunderstanding. Those abilities in Japanese are also preferable.

Other Skills

Must be able to use a computer and such applications as Microsoft Windows, Word,Excel, Power Point and Explorer (including skills with search engines like Google and Yahoo to collect necessary information efficiently.) .

Experience/Education

Bachelors degree for polymer science, chemical science or other engineering technologies from four-year college or university; and/or at least five years experience and/or training in the plastics industry, chemical industry or automotive industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
