Pipeline Materials Engineer / Welding Engineer - Houston
Salary to $150,000 plus overtime plus bonus and full fringe

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have the desire to build a successful engineering practice in a dynamic, work-oriented environment. They must possess excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and be a self-starter. They will work primarily on an individual basis, but also need to function well on project teams. Mentoring and developing younger engineers should be a priority.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • A BS or Masters or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or metallurgical or welding engineering from an accredited university required (the advanced degree requirement can be waived if applicant has 10+ years of experience with a pipeline company)
  • Must have practical in-depth technical knowledge from experience with an operating company
  • A working knowledge of construction practices, materials, manufacturing / fabrication methods, and energy industry standards that are applicable to the equipment and systems used in the transportation of crude oil and natural gas via pipelines
  • Experience at a major oil company or operating pipeline company or a consulting firm working on pipelines is mandatory
  • 10+ years continuous employment as a practicing engineer preferred
  • Registered professional engineer (P.E.) or possess the ability to become registered
  • Must have a detailed working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards such as API 5L, ASME BPVC Sections VIII, & ASME B31.4/31.8
  • Must be willing and able to travel on occasion and work in a variety of environments, including pipeline right-of-ways and manufacturing facilities. Travel could be worldwide and the applicant must have or be able to obtain a passport without restrictions.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking an engineer with experience in mechanics and materials for our growing Pipeline Practice. The practice provides engineering support to pipeline companies around the world that include integrity management assessments, materials selection, fabrication, welding, full-scale testing, pipeline repair consultation, and failure analysis. We serve the major gas and liquid pipeline operators.

Additionally, the experienced candidate will be expected to develop relationships with clients in order to build an independent successful consulting practice. This includes participating in industry groups, attending trade shows and conferences, and writing / presenting technical papers. This position will interface with clients, prepare technical proposals and reports, and work either individually or on a team.

The Client is a large, highly regarded and long established consulting company that is employee owned. It has very low turnover.
This client offers a full fringe benefit package and the opportunity to make an income several times as large as what might be obtained from an operating if routine overtime opportunities are taken and average bonuses are achieved.

The client will pay for relocation costs. Overnight travel is relatively low. MUST be a USA citizen.

This is not a corrosion / cathodic protection engineer position. More typically it involves the detailed analyses of subsurface and subsea pipeline and flowline systems
considering a variety of loading conditions including thermal expansion, resistance to buckling, thermal upheaval buckling, effects of outside anchor impacts including modeling high speed impact loads, fatigue assessments, and analyses including welding issues considering the strain-based rules of API RP 1111 and the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 3 for high pressure designs.
