Medical Communications Leader

This role is a critical member of the Global Medical Affairs team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of high-impact strategic medical communication, education, publication and medical advocacy plans for company products. The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry, coupled with strong team management skills, and the ability to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, KOLs/external authors, and advocacy associations alike.

This leader will engage with cross-functional partners including research, clinical, medical writing, marketing, patient advocacy, corporate communications and medical affairs and oversee the timely planning, tracking and dissemination of the medical communications plan for scientific and clinical abstracts, posters, oral & written presentations and manuscripts. This role will be the key medical affairs liaison for Corporate Communications to ensure timely and consistent communication of Spark data to external audiences. S/he will also be responsible for medical education/CME planning, programming and execution.

An understanding of medical communications planning for both marketed products as well as products in clinical development is crucial. Long-term budget planning and resource allocation skills are necessary, in addition to expertise in the rules and best practices governing medical education and publications globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive the strategic process behind development of the Global Medical Communications plan
Collaborate with commercial partners on developing a Medical Communications plan that is supportive of strategic medical objectives; educate key stakeholders on how medical education, advocacy initiatives, and publications work together to communicate medical learning objectives to healthcare provider
Develop forums and processes to communicate results and accomplishments to key stakeholders and to senior management
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with key opinion leaders, and our advocacy partners (professional and patient organizations)
Build strong collaborative relationships within the organization, and ensure visibility of Medical Affairs activities.




QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual should be innovative and enterprising, with a proven track record of success in leading the data dissemination efforts of a global pharma organization. In addition, the individual will be a strategic partner with a unique understanding of the interplay between medical affairs and the commercial team. Leadership and technical capabilities are needed. The successful candidate will also have excellent interpersonal communication skills along with problem-solving expertise. This person must be independent, multi-tasked and results-oriented with a hands-on attitude in a fast-paced and energetic environment.


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Twelve or more years within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare organization. At least five years of specific Medical Communications experience
  • Strong communications skills (written and verbal); individual should be a skilled communicator and relationship-builder, who effectively networks internally and externally
  • An outstanding manager and team-builder, with a proven ability to excel in a global matrix organization.
  • Strong project, budget, and team management skills
  • Hemophilia expertise a plus
