RN I: Provides basic nursing care in predictable situations to limited numbers of patients under supervision. A new registered nurse or one returning to the professional after a prolonged absence. Requires direct supervision (charge nurse on the Medical/Surgical Unit or the House Supervisor). Performance is guided by rules. Is able to recognize attributes (i.e., isolated traits, objective measures or tasks) of a clinical situation without situational experience. RN II: Independently plans and implements routine nursing care in predictable situations using standards. Begins to assume leadership responsibility. Needs minimal supervision. Advancement from RN I or a minimum of one (1) year continuous recent experience in a comparable patient care setting. Clinical competency in primary specialty and a minimum of one (1) float area required within one year of attaining CN II status. RN III: Plans and implements nursing care, individualizing care as needed, without supervision. Able to manage routine and emergency care. Assumes basic leadership responsibilities. Advancement from RN II or a minimum of 3 years current acute care experience 2 of which are in primary unit specialty. Clinical competency in primary specialty and a minimum of one (1) float area required within one year of hire. RN I/II/III: BLS: All nursing departments ACLS: CCU, ER. OR, PACU NRP: OB CPI: ER, MHU, JRH
