EHS Manager, Specialty Materials

Job Location: Reading, PA
This position is a vital member of the leadership team & will be responsible for leading & directing through the Safety, Health & Environmental (EHS) programs at the plant site.
  • This role will drive site performance standards to enhance compliance & achieve business & functional goals.
  • The EHS Manager will oversee the implementation of EHS programs & ensure overall compliance w/ all applicable regulations.
  • The Plant site is unique in that it is a PSM/RMP covered site, OSHA VPP certified, operates w/in Title V & NPDES requirements as well as a PA radioactive material licensee for source material.
  • This position will also serve as the focal point for global EHS coordination w/ the other facilities & will report on overall EHS metrics for the Business as well as coordinating the global business risk assessment process.

Essential Functions:
  • Establish EHS goals & objectives consistent w/ the business objectives including providing the necessary leadership, expertise & support to drive comprehensive EHS standards, programs & processes for the Plant Facility.
  • Monitor & report progress toward achieving site goals & objective using established safety & health metrics. Provide regular communication to all levels of management in the Business regarding EHS issues & performance. Track & report plant & global EHS performance (i.e. TRIR, etc.).
  • Coordinate global business risk assessment process w/ Senior management, including risk mitigation strategies, new risk assessment, & operational plans for risk mitigation implementation.
  • Oversee plant level EHS staff competency & identify appropriate training opportunities. Mentor the EHS team in the development & implementation of local EHS programs.
  • Promote continuous improvement efforts in the EHS function & implement best practices.
  • Manage system for identifying, investigating, recording, & reporting undesired safety & health/environmental events. Ensure corrective actions are taken to fulfill regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of government activities & regulatory requirements regarding EHS matters & understand current & future EHS regulatory requirements that could impact operations. Provide clear interpretation of requirements through effective communication & interaction w/ appropriate stakeholders.
  • Function as the sites Emergency Management Coordinator & be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
  • Provide global coordination for reporting multi-site EHS metrics, program status, & incidents.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years industrial experience in area of specialty (preferred in the chemical industry).
  • Bachelor/University degree in applicable EHS discipline, engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in applicable discipline.
  • Proven managerial experience in EHS or manufacturing organization w/ a history of DIRECT REPORTS.
  • Knowledgeable of PSM programs & Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (i.e. team building, supervisory / people management) including strong oral & written communication skills.
