Financial Controller

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Management

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the departments goals and objectives
  • Supervision of Accounting Staff
  • Oversee the management of joint ventures
  • Oversee the accounting operations especially control systems transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
  • Oversight and maintenance of effective collection policies and procedures, ensuring all debt collection practices are adhered to
  • Supervise the internal audit function of the firm to maintain a high level of accuracy and integrity of financial information
  • Support contract compliance function in conjunction with Contracts Administrator

Transactions

  1. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and all discounts are taken
  2. Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  3. Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  4. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  5. Maintain the chart of accounts
  6. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  7. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Reporting

  1. Issue timely and complete financial statements
  2. Preparation of financial proforma development and projections
  3. Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
  4. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  5. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  6. Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts as well as cash flow projections
  7. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  8. Provide for a system of management cost reports
  9. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

Compliance

  1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  3. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list:

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with GAAP, as well as an ability to grasp company financial policies and protocols
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/receivables/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Working knowledge of project costing and analysis, estimates to completion, generally accepted accounting standards, and adherence to credit and collection policies of the company
  • Working knowledge of accounting software and programs
  • Mid-Level proficient skill using MS Office i.e., Word, Excel, internet-based applications, 10-key by touch
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis, detail oriented and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately
  • Highly detailed-oriented and organized
Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • Education: B.S. Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 8-10 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience utilizing accounting software systems, Vision or Ajera is a plus

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in the Engineering, Construction or Professional Services environment is preferred

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certified Public Accountant(CPA) licenseis preferred, but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required
  • This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
