Our Client is a hospital in Phoenix, AZ that has an immediate need for a Lead HIM Coder.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead HIM Coder performs coding of clinical diagnoses and procedures which are utilized for reimbursement, physician and facility profiles, peer review activities, and reporting to regulating or accrediting agencies. S/he abstracts patient data to accurately code and maximize reimbursement, utilizing computer encoder, and grouper systems. S/he will refer cases for medical staff quality review, according to established criteria. Coordinates day-to-day operational activities answers coder questions. 1. Exhibits and provides a high degree of ICD9 and CPT coding technical skill and knowledge, according to established conventions, and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy based on reviewing agencies as evidenced by audit. Monitors and reports on the status of unbilled/uncoded accounts. 2. Maintains professional credentialing requirements and knowledge of medical diagnoses and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/tests. Continuing education requirements, as determined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and departmental policies, shall be maintained as documented. Maintains current knowledge of the latest coding updates and payer reimbursement strategies that impact the coding process as demonstrated by documentation. 3. Provides effective communication and technical assistance to the Medical Staff and Quality Management. Responds appropriately to questions regarding diagnostic and/or procedure information, and provide recommendations to enhance legitimate reimbursements as demonstrated by observation. Refers cases to appropriate parties for quality review activities of the Medical Staff following established criteria as evidenced by documentation. 4. Coordinates daily coding productions. Answers questions. Research and resolve problems.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent 5-7 years experience ICD9, CPT coding, and DRG. Certified in one of the following areas: current RHIT Registered Health Information Technician or current RHIA, Registered Health Information Administrator or current CCS Certified Coding Specialist, or CPC Certified Professional Coder or equivalent
SALARY: Above salary scale is a national projection so it will vary depending on location. Specific information will be provided upon preliminary screening with our client.
