Director Health Information Management

The Director of Health Information Management will report to the CFO. This position establishes departmental goals, Plans, coordinates and supervises overall department activities. Develops and administrates the department budget. Establishes departmental policies and procedures, including standards for productivity and quality. Ensures the department meets all requirements (medical, legal, ethical, administrative, regulatory, corporate and hospital). Provides leadership and supervises Specialty Hospital HIM Department. Selects, trains and evalutes all supervisory staff. Promotes teamwork and customer satisfaction. Maintains compliance with HIPAA Standards and Policy and Procedures.

Requirements:
RHIT or RHIA. Five years director level experience required preferably in an acute care hospital. Demonstrated knowledge of hospital privacy protocols, JCAHO and quality standards compliance.

I. Position Summary: Directs and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Medical Records Department. Position require management of Medical Records Supervisor, Medical Staff Coordinator and Transcriptionists. Duties also include: develops, maintains, interprets and evaluates procedures and processes, and directs their application to ensure that the day-to-day activities are carried out in an effective manner and meet the standards established by State, Federal and Corporate regulatory agencies. Develops and controls chart processing to ensure maximum reimbursement is achieved.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Must be a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

B. Education: Associate Degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

C. Experience: Two years experience with a major medical facility as supervisor/manager of a Medical Records Department.

D. Special qualifications: Must be computer literate. Strong, effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must have be able to interpret JCAHO Standards.
