Our client is a leader in custom engineered materials for critical product components in a wide range of markets and applications. The company provides deep material science expertise, outstanding customer service through broad geographic coverage and trusted product reliability.

Job Summary: The Market Development Manager, Food & Medical Packaging will be responsible for leveraging their extensive expertise selling, marketing or developing new food and medical packaging substrates to lead our clients aggressive expansion in this target market space. The incumbent will identify and drive opportunities to accelerate market penetration in new applications by leveraging existing capabilities while also building a growth strategy built upon new product development and capability enhancements/investments. This position will provide extensive exposure to executive and senior leadership throughout our organization as well as to partners and customers. As a Market Development Manager, you are a key part of our clients team with the opportunity to contribute to and shape our ongoing growth strategy.

Job Duties:

  • Leverage expertise to define and execute short (3-6 month) and long term (6-24 month) growth strategies to deliver $5 million per year in growth revenue from new applications and/or solutions
  • Identify and deliver quick wins by leveraging current capabilities and solutions (3-6 month horizon) in new applications or with new customers
  • Identify gaps in capabilities and solutions to drive new product development (NPD) and asset investment projects (6-24 month horizon). Actively participate in NPD process as the commercial lead
  • Provide on-demand support to sales with existing customers for project idealization, relationship development and sales opportunity management
  • Personally drive new customer engagement and acquisition in target application spaces
  • Proactively manage all market development projects at new and existing customers
  • Act as internal expert / consultant on food and medical packaging trends, requirements, and solutions to other functions and executive team. Develop and manage training for new sales personnel on our client's value proposition and solutions
  • Expand our client's reputation in the market and drive new customer acquisition through the planning an execution of trade show participation, conference presentations and marketing communication initiatives
  • Collaborate with product management to identify areas to improve service and customer experience for increased customer retention
  • Deliver quarterly updates to executive management on progress vs goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; MBA preferred
  • 5-10 years as Market Development, Sales or Application Development for a medical and food packaging converter or plastic resin or compound supplier
  • Build consensus and support for ideas through influence
  • Proven project management skills required
  • Effectively synthesize and communicate analyses (presentations, memos)
  • Weekly domestic travel required (>50%)
  • Good business acumen with a proven ability to understand business priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build very good working relationships with managers, coworkers, and customers
  • Ability to plan and organize when priorities are changing due to business needs
  • Demonstrate confidence and understanding during stressful situations
  • Able to deal properly with sensitive and confidential information
