Accountant - Level 4/5

Job Location: St. Louis, MO

Experience: 10-15 years of experience

Specifically, this position shall be the primary interface between the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) accounting function and the corporate development process. As the resident GAAP expert within IDS, this position works closely with corporate development and other functions throughout on a regular basis. Responsibilities include consulting on complex equity strategies with executive management and our auditors, leading and managing accounting due diligence on potential targets, providing extensive input into term sheets and applicable legal documents, and developing finance integration plans for new companies acquired. Such duties require a clear and concise knowledge of applicable GAAP standards such as FAS 141/141R, FIN 46, et al., and the communication skills necessary to disseminate such information to management throughout the process. IDS, the 2nd largest defense contractor, is headquartered in St. Louis. This position reports directly to the IDS manager of financial reporting and interfaces regularly with IDS finance leadership. In addition to focusing on corporate development activities, the position will be a valuable member of the Policy and Reporting team where we continually consult IDS business management in a variety of accounting matters. The position receives significant visibility in IDS and making it the perfect start of a long career. In general, a level 4/5 accountant leads and oversees the implementation of new internal controls, processes, accounting systems and tools to ensure system integrity and compliance with accounting system and Company requirements and guidelines. Identifies and resolves accounting system issues requiring advanced knowledge. Provides primary interface on technical Company accounting systems to internal and external auditors and provides expert assistance regarding implementation and problem resolution. Reviews, analyzes and interprets complex Company directives, policies and regulatory requirements to guide, direct and recommend overall accounting policies and practices. Consults with and advises top management, other organizations, customers and auditors regarding accounting policy and classification practices. Establishes, monitors, maintains and reviews internal control systems and complex documentation for compliance. Reviews and analyzes unusual contract terms, conditions and accounting source documents to ensure that complex transactions are correctly classified. Influences business decisions through negotiations. Gathers, analyzes, interprets, prepares and reconciles complex and unusual financial information to support the preparation of complex financial statements. Leads and guides the development of internal and external financial reports for management. Surfaces issues and leads complex process improvement initiatives. Serves as a job expert within the Company and consultant to top management. Works under consultative direction.

Accounting Theory

Preferred - Advanced, expert knowledge of accounting theory, concepts, and principles within the department/organization. Ability to apply expert accounting knowledge to business processes at all levels and act as a consultant to top management on accounting issues.

Analytical Skills
Basic - Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data summarize findings develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources with clients, customers and/or suppliers.

Preferred:

Financial Reporting

Education and/or Experience
Level 4 - Bachelors degree and 10 to 14 years related work experience, a Masters degree and 8 to 12 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level 5 - Bachelors degree and 15 years related work experience, a Masters degree and a minimum of 13 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
