Job Location: Watertown, NY

SMV Recruiting has a very well established and respected client near Watertown, NY who is looking for a Payroll Accountant. Responsibilities of this role include payroll processing and transactional functions, overseeing benefits, recommending process improvements and abiding by federal regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in developing reports and analysis that help finance leadership manage and monitor payroll functions and have a track record of effecting continuous process improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On a weekly basis prepare, input and process payroll for hourly and salary employees
  • Assist with month-end by reconciling and analyzing payroll and benefit general ledgers and by preparing payroll journal entries
  • Oversee year-end reporting including processing W2s, 1099s and 1095s
  • Execute routine payroll processing functions accurately and effectively
  • Review, analyze, and report on payroll data, including analyzing overtime and timesheet compliance
  • Ensure payroll complies with state and federal regulations
  • Assist with reporting and compliance with the healthcare and flex spending plans and 401K
  • Recommend and implement process improvement
  • Provide superior customer service and address any payroll questions or concerns
  • Engage in cross-training with other finance personnel to provide back-up as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting (HR, business or related field will be considered as well)
  • Three years of experience working in accounting/payroll-related role of increasing responsibility
  • Ability to extract, compile and analyze data and provide meaningful analysis to management
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, particularly possessing intermediate to advanced Excel skills and payroll systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with various levels of management and staff
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment
  • Exceptional written and analytical skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and a demonstrated track record of functioning with a high level of ethics and integrity
