Technical Accountant - IFRS 17

Job Location: Cincinnati, OH
Global client located in Ohio has a newly created opportunity - Technical Accountant - IFRS 17. Will report to the new IFRS 17 Program Implementation Manager. Relocation assistance can be negotiated at offer and this opportunity has a target bonus of around 10%. Initially, after hire, this can be a work remotely opportunity, but the carrier will desire the new hire to eventually make the relocation. This opportunity is a critical role within the Accounting Team and is responsible for preparing and/or reviewing the departments complex accounting entries related to areas such as Reinsurance, Intercompany transactions with US and international affiliates, Program Business as it relates to implementing the IFRS 17 workflows. This role also assists in the documentation of key assumptions in implementing IFRS 17 relating to accounting policies, procedures, and controls. This position plays an integral role in the completion of the departments responsibilities related to monthly & quarterly reporting to international parent company and internal management. Among others, responsibilities of this role will be:
  • Proactively evaluate and document IFRS 17 position papers, documenting local impacts and analytics on assumptions used as it relates to the IFRS 17 design and implementation of processes
  • Maintain and monitor compliance with internal controls with the processes developed for IFRS 17 as they impact current roles and controls
  • Participate in mapping of the new chart of accounts for IFRS 17 with the current chart of accounts used for IFRS 4 and fully understand and communicate the IFRS 17 Manual of Methods for accounting principles to be implemented within IFRS 17
  • Evaluating impacts to the current close process with the new IFRS 17 processes being designed and implemented. Participating in the early close impacts related to IFRS 17
  • Work closely with actuarial team members to understand process changes within their and the related accounting department processes as IFRS 17 is implemented
  • Be available to support other Accounting team members in:
*Prepare and review accounting entries including such items as Reinsurance, Intercompany transactions with US and International affiliates, and closing entries to finalize Monthly & Quarterly Reporting to Regulatory Authorities, International Parent Company and Internal Management. *Coordinate, prepare, and review closing entries to finalize Monthly & Quarterly Reporting to Regulatory Authorities, International Parent Company and Internal Management for deals with more complexity. *Coordinate, prepare, and/or review regulatory financial statement filings and correspondence related to regulatory state premium taxes and insurance plans with increasing complexity. *Monitor, prepare and/or review more complex account reconciliations and gets involved in ad hoc analyses, accounting research, financial statement preparation and review, and other accounting initiatives and projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree and/or CPA or CFA, or Insurance Certification, preferred
  • Strong GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS accounting knowledge and on the job experience with recording complex ledger transactions, developing and/or reviewing complex reconciliations, and understanding end to end sub ledger functions across various transaction streams including cash, receivables, payables, premiums, reinsurance, investments, and losses
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel including the use of macros, pivot tables, and other Excel advanced functions
  • Proficiency with all other Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in documenting and evaluating internal controls
  • Experience in establishing/documenting end to end business/accounting processes
  • Experience using data mining and reporting tools such as COGNOS Advance and Oracle Sequel or similar programs
