Director of Product Development
Job Location: Los angeles, CA
Experience: 8-10 years of experience
The Director of RD will manage the development of new product concepts as well as the continual improvement of existing product lines. The Director of Product Development will supervise a group of talented designers, work closely with customers, manage departmental operations, and provide ongoing leadership and technical expertise. Responsibilities Include:
Manage the design and development of innovative new products as well as improvements to existing products.
Works with Marketing and Sales to define potential new markets and product line extensions based on need, market size, competition, and other factors.
Provide technical leadership and support to manufacturing and tooling engineers in the continual improvement of injection molding and related assembly processes.
Direct Product Development Engineers in the utilization of state of the art CAD systems, selection of plastic materials, and construction and testing of prototypes.
Oversees transfer of new projects from design and development to full commercialization.
Will prepares expense justifications for capital equipment.
Prepares reports for management and customers including technical bulletins to describe product performance characteristics, outline achievement of project timelines, and white papers for marketing and professional journals.
Coordinates the development of appropriate Quality Levels (AQL and CPK) for new products.
Leads investigation and resolution of product failures for key projects.
Requirements:
BS or MS in Chemical, Mechanical or Polymer Engineering.
3 to 5 years of experience in Plastic Medical Device Product Design and Development management.
10+ years Plastic Medical Device Design and Development experience that includes strengths in materials selection, understanding of molding processes and tooling, and FDA compliance procedures related to product development.
Understanding of DOE, FMEA and statistics used in the product development process.
Excellent project management and writing skills.
Ability to travel on occasion.
