Director of RD Engineering
A Successful and Well-Funded, Start-Up Medical Device Company (incorporated in 2006) is searching for a Director of RD Engineering to lead a team of 8 RD Engineers (direct reports) and drive major medical device product development projects. This company has an entreprenurial, fast-paced and hands-on environment where you will work directly with design, development, customers (surgeons), clinical labs, creating a new innovative surgical platform of products that will enable new surgical procedures. This company launched its first product in late 2007 and has a second platform of products scheduled for launch in September/October 2008. In addition, this company has 8 New Products in the Pipeline.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Plans and directs research and development engineering activities within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organizations established policies and objectives.
This position is responsible for the direct management of complex RD projects involving a team of engineering staff. Programs managed by this Engineering Director will represent large high growth potential breakthrough or platform scale development opportunities. The Director will successfully organize, lead, coordinate and direct a project team on high visibility product development programs.
Maintains an organizations competitive position and profitability by formulating research and development programs. Familiar with a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to top management (CEO).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Requires a bachelors degree in engineering and 10 years of experience progressive engineering roles including some experience in Medical Device Product Development.

Plan, Coordinate and Track Resource Allocation
Routine and Regular Communication Reporting on Project
Regular Interaction with Sr. Management
Demonstrated strong planning and organizational skills
Works independently/ Self-directed
Successful track record of managing projects on schedule
Excellent interpersonal and influence management skills
Strong Microsoft Project skills.
Experience, familiarity and demonstrated successful coordination with functional departments
