Department: SJC EMERGENCY SERVICES

Shift: 12 Hour Variable Shift / Hours: 24 FTE: .6

Position Summary: 
The Clinical MICT is a verified Mobile Intensive Care Technician who assists in performing delegated patient care activities including activities of daily living and basic nursing care procedures as well as identified competencies required in the assigned patient care unit. Performs other related duties as assigned. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The identified skill sets are further clarified at the end of this document.

Essential Functions:
Other duties may be assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job. All activities are performed under the delegation of a Physician and/or Registered Nurse following Medical Center patient care standards. Monitoring Role
1. Demonstrates the ability to assess and evaluate data including:
  • Systematic and ongoing assessment based on patient diagnosis;
  • Diagnostic test results and other clinical information;
  • Response to care/treatment;
  • Behavioral responses;
  • Developmental needs; cultural responses/needs;
  • Educational needs.

2. Recognizes and reports changes in patient condition.

Therapeutic Interventions/Provision of Care
1. Demonstrates patient family focus in the provision of care adheres to standards.
2. Implements care delegated by physician or RN using critical thinking to evaluate the effectiveness of care.
3. Assists patients and families to integrate the impact of illness and recovery into their lifestyles through patient education in collaboration with RN and physician.
4. Continues a climate for healing and recovery.

Clinical Management
1. Provides collaborative management of patient needs and care interventions needs as delegated by RN or Physician.
2. Monitors and communicates progress toward expected outcomes.
3. Identifies and responds to potential risk/hazard to themselves and others.
4. Utilizes critical thinking to evaluate the effectiveness of care.

Documentation and Communication
1. Recognizes the importance of the Medical Record as an avenue for interdisciplinary communication and completes documentation. 2. Recognizes the importance of verbal and nonverbal communication in all patient/family care activities and interactions with interdisciplinary team members.
3. Supports effective communication through utilizing systems that enable opportunities for input regarding patient care issues.

Clinical Practice Improvement
1. Identifies processes/issues for improvement and communicates with team members with ideas for improvement.

Education
1. Participates regularly in educational activities related to practice.
2. Identifies learning needs and seeks experiences to develop and maintain clinical skills.
3. Develops a clinical knowledge base for populations served that is age appropriate culturally specific and diagnosis appropriate.

IDENTIFIED SKILLS:
* Provides care to patients under delegation of an RN or physician in a manner which promotes quality care.
]* Reviews patient information for pertinent history and physical findings.]
* Monitors patient vital signs: temperature pulse blood pressure respiration rates oxymetry C02 waveform. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern current pattern and prior variances.
* Prepares patient for transport and interventions including appropriate equipment IV fluids and medications. Uses infection control techniques in all patient care activities.
* Explains all care procedures to the patient/family prior to performing the care.
* Evaluates patient response to interventions and informs RN & Physician of pertinent changes and findings. Prepares rooms sterile instruments equipment and/or supplies for surgery/treatment. Assists in surgery/treatment as assigned.
* Monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances and provides appropriate interventions according to ACLS or Physician order.
* Detects and notifies RN and/or other appropriate personnel immediately in the event of life-threatening conditions including airway inadequacies and dysrhythmias.
* Utilizes the nursing process of assessment establishing goals planning interventions evaluating and re- evaluating care.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one to three months related experience and/or training. Must have completion of Emergency Mobile Intensive Care Technician training with current Kansas license.

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Mobile Intensive Care Technician verification with the State of Kansas Board of EMS. ACLS provider. PALS provider within 6 months. Valid Kansas Driver's License.
