Job Summary: The Director of Nursing provides professional nursing management by coordinating and maintaining an efficient productive organized facility structure. Shall have administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the nursing staff. Responsible for maintaining facility compliance based upon regulations governing the facility. Responsible for developing and adhering to departmental budgets.
Essential Job Functions Department Management Functions: 1. Work openly and efficiently with the CEO/Administrator consultants and facility staff in all aspects of nursing services/programs. 2. Assume responsibility for forecasting planning/developing organizing implementing directing and evaluating all nursing services/programs and has the responsibility administrative authority and accountability for the supervision of nursing care provided to residents in the nursing facility. 3. Manage/monitor the nursing department's activities by effectively communicating policies expected outcomes efficient work routines possible work procedures and promotion of teamwork to nursing staff. 4. Market the facility in a positive manner while carrying out tasks at work in the facility and in public. 5. Work with the CEO/Administrator consultants and facility staff in developing and maintaining nursing budgets. 6. Work collaboratively with CEO/Administrator consultants medical director and facility staff to develop implement and evaluate quality of care and standards of nursing service guidelines. 7. Assume administrative capacity for the nursing facility in the absence of the CEO/Administrator.
Nursing Functions: 1. Develop and maintain nursing policies and procedures within system guidelines. 2. Conduct regular rounds to monitor resident care. 3. Monitor admissions discharges and transfers of residents to assure appropriate care and compliance with the State. 4. Assume responsibility for enhancing professional knowledge and skills through participation in educational programs and seminars.
Staffing Functions: 1. Work in conjunction with Administrator/CEO consultants and facility staff in the effort to recruit interview select orient and maintain a viable nursing team. 2. Directly supervise Charge Nurses MDS Coordinator and Medical Records Personnel. 3. Create and maintains an atmosphere of warmth cooperation personal interest and positive attitude through out the nursing department. 4. Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident and employee information. 5. Maintain a neat clean professional appearance. 6. Assure personal and staff compliance with infection control personal protection equipment blood borne pathogens hazardous material handling and fire safety.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Clinical background from three to five years with experience in geriatrics Long Term Care and management preferred. Possess proficient assessment skills related to geriatric residents. Possess working knowledge of State and Federal regulations. Membership in one or more professional organizations is encouraged. The Director of Nursing must have excellent communication skills be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to the position function independently have flexibility and personal integrity. Employee must demonstrate on an ongoing basis the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and department heads.
Education/Certification Licensure: The Director of Nursing must be a registered nurse in the State of Kansas.
