Drilling Engineer II

Job Description:
This Drilling Engineering position will be responsible & accountable for drilling engineering activities including: well design, casing design, coordination, rig scheduling, data analysis, multi-rig program optimization, rig contract reviews, and asset enhancement projects.
This position reports to the Drilling Team Lead and will work within a dynamic multidiscipline team consisting of field and office personnel. The candidate will be expected to lead by example in matters of EH&S, E&P Way, integrity and all other corporate sponsored initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have Rocky Mountain Area drilling experience in both the field and the office settings. Candidates with rig supervision experience will be given preference over others without that skill set. Familiarity with Open Wells and Compass software a plus. The Drilling Engineer will not only have the opportunity but will be expected to address our middle managers to review performance and to present ideas and future plans.Day to day work will include the development, review, approval and implementation of the following: AFEs, multi-well pad layouts, directional plans, drilling fluid selection, cement programs, casing designs, and drill string analysis. The successful applicant will work hand in hand with the following departments: Geology, Reservoir, Permitting, Regulatory, Field Operations & Administration, Drilling, Exploration and Management. One should frequent technical discussions with regulatory agencies, vendors, rig contractors, etc. Coordinate and plan short and long-term work tasks to meet production, LOE, and capital budget goals. Communicate directly with the supervisor and other team members. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of critical activities.Work to continuously improve asset operations, including new technologies, bid evaluations, cost management measures, and infrastructure projects. This includes continuous review of costs and performance.
Position Responsibilities:
(1) Formulate, coordinate, and implement pad layouts, pad construction, directional drilling plans, mud and cement designs, drilling string and casing string designs.(2) Implement, and monitor the drilling schedule on a daily basis. Work with geological, permitting, and engineering staffs to ensure the most effective schedule possible.(3) Review and provide input on drilling contracts. Ensure compliance with contracts.(4) Coordinate and plan short and long-term work tasks to meet production, LOE, and capital budget goals. Communicates with direct supervisor and team members. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of critical activities.(5) Supervise contract drilling representatives on a daily basis to ensure safe and efficient operations. This includes travel to the rig-sites. (6) Work to continuously improve asset operations, including new technologies, bid evaluations, cost-cutting measures, and infrastructure projects. This includes continuous post-appraisal of costs and performance.(7) Provides operations assistance to Regulatory, Accounting, Geology, Engineering Technicians, and Field Administration. This includes coordination and creation of permits and new well AFEs as well as feasibility studies for future bottom-hole locations.(8) Assist with and coordinate regulatory-driven projects, including applications for reduced drilling density, Master APDs, and environmental assessment packages.(9) Candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle multiple tasks with changing and conflicting responsibilities and accountabilities. Must be self-motivated and an enthusiastic team player capable of completing tasks in a group environment.
Position will be filled commensurate with experience.
