Responsibilities
We are looking for a talented corrosion technician to build a highly effective and efficient corrosion control program that will protect the integrity of the Laurel Mountain Midstream gathering, compression, and plant assets. Most of these assets reside in Western Pennsylvania. In the beginning this Technician will be the sole technician building this program so leadership, interpersonal, and technical skills are all requirements. In accordance with Williams Midstream policies and procedures as well as regulatory guidelines and requirements, conduct annual cathodic protection surveys and maintain the appropriate documentation. Perform and/or coordinate bimonthly rectifier and critical bond inspections and maintain the appropriate documentation. Prepare and submit, in a timely manner, records for all surveys, tests, work progress reports or other corrosion related documentation. Monitor, document, and coordinate treatment for internal corrosion. Actively support all corrosion control related activities associated with maintenance and new construction projects including cathodic protection, internal corrosion monitoring, materials selection and design and protective coating and linings. Communicate and work well with local operations and Tulsa based Fixed Structures personnel and management. Increase knowledge of corrosion mitigation techniques and pursue progressive NACE certification.
In this position, the Field Corrosion Technician will be expected to promote and pursue operational excellence, work in partnership with technical, operational, and commercial groups, and to take active ownership for effectively and efficiently managing risks for our gathering and pipeline assets; Initiate the preparation of job plans, AFEs, RFSs, ordering materials, negotiating contracts, budgeting and forecasting costs associated with corrosion control activities.
Qualifications
Results oriented with a strong initiative and excellent communication skills. Competent knowledge in all facets of corrosion control with in depth understanding of corrosion mechanisms and mitigation techniques; Competent computer skills including the use of word processing, spreadsheet and corrosion database software and the use of a data logger (hardware). Competent electrical knowledge including AC, DC, and electrochemical theory. Competent knowledge of pipeline operations and the characteristics of products transported by pipeline. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment. Able to proficiently utilize corrosion related testing equipment including but not limited to multi-meters, reference electrodes, current interrupters, pipe & cable locators, chart recorders and data loggers. This position typically requires moderate supervision by management. Must be able to travel 25% of the time and stay out overnight approximately 10% of the time.
Working conditions: physical demands include constantly hearing and seeing, frequently talking, sitting, standing, walking, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), carrying, pushing and pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, and wearing personal protective equipment. Environmental conditions include frequently working outside and working inside and exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, noise, vibration, and mechanical and burn hazards.
H.S. Diploma required, Associates of Applied Science preferred. NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist or CP Level III Corrosion Technologist preferred.
