RN - Clinical Nurse

Job Location: Gettysburg, PA

Job Type: PRN - Option (I, II, III, III A, IV)

Department: Maternity (GH)

Shift: All Shifts Available

Hours: Must have 3 yrs L&D Experience

Job Details:
- RN Diploma
- ACLS
- BCLS
- Licensed in PA
- 2-3 years of experience
- Must live within 30 minutes of facility to meet call requirements
- OB/GYN Experience Required

Required hours per 4 week schedule

PRN I - Works 24 hours per 4 week schedule; works 1 week-end shift per schedule.
PRN II - Works 48 hours per 4 week schedule; works 24 week-end hours per schedule.
PRN III - Works 26 week-end shifts [24 hours per week-end] per year.
PRN IIIA - Works 3 of 4 weekends -[24 hours per week-end] per 4 week matrix. The weekend off is based on unit staffing needs.
PRN IV - Works every week-end [24 hours per week-end] with 2 week-ends off per year

General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides professional nursing care at the beginner practitioner level within an assigned unit according to established procedures, protocols and regulations. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:

1 Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

2 Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans for patients.

3 Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients.

4 Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.

5 Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.

6 Administers and controls narcotics and medications.

7 Participates in patient rounds.

8 Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.

9 Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.

10 Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment.

11 Maintains patient documentation.


The following are common expectations:

12 Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).

13 Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.

14 Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

15 Enhances professional growth and development through advanced/continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and competencies.

16 Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.


The following are nonessential job accountabilities for ADA purposes:

17 Participates in Quality Assessment Program on a regular and continuing basis.

18 Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.

19 Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.

20 Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.

21 Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as requested.

Performs other related duties as identified.


Qualifications:
Note: Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

Minimum Education Associate's Degree

Minimum Experience 6 - 12 months

Req Cert/Registration Registration and current RN license in PA; CPR certification

Pref Cert/Registration Certification in appropriate nursing specialty
