Summary Statement:

Applies advanced technical skills and knowledge to perform various production operations within the manufacturing and repair areas such as assembly, of aircraft structures parts, components, subsystems and operating systems that are composed of metallic and nonmetallic material or a combination thereof.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Performs tasks that are required to fabricate detail parts, subassemblies and major assemblies of aircraft structures, parts and components, that are moderate to complex requiring experience and judgment to determine plans and action from standard procedural alternatives. Works independently and determines own priorities.

Performs multiple tasks that include non-routine and non-repetitive assembly functions following established methods and procedures. May review production and process documentation from production scheduling and planning and assist in expediting the flow of material, parts and assemblies.

Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material with or without templates or shop aides to develop or back drill hole patterns for installation of composite, sheet metal and mechanical parts. Trims sheet metal and composite parts to fit and files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smoothes surfaces.

Drills holes of varying sizes in new detail parts and subassemblies according to work instructions. Drives and bucks rivets to attach and assemble detail parts to structural parts and complete subassemblies to written and verbal work instructions.

Bolts, screws and clips detail parts to assemble products. Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints. Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.

Passes all job specific or specialized certification programs required for core tasks or specialized assignments.

Participates in projects developing process improvement methods, solutions and procedures to enhance program quality, cost and scheduling. Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical process control or other control procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: AEROSTRUCTURE MECHANIC A

Formal Education, Training and Work Experience:
Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Technical school and four (4) to seven (7) or more years of experience in major aircraft structural assembly, composite and metal bond lay-up, or other related manufacturing experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Level of Supervision Required:
The level of supervision required described here is representative of that which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Works under general supervision. Work is reviewed for completion to quality standards and schedule requirements. May adapt techniques and tools to meet special needs with approval from management.

Special Skills, Licenses or Job Requirements:
Demonstrate competency in applying the following in performing normal job duties.
Read and interpret blueprints.
Knowledgeable of rivet standard sizes and corresponding drill size.
Capable of installing blind rivets, Jo-Bolts, hilocks, huck bolts, solid rivets and bolts. The following statement is only applicable if the job function will also be performed under the divisions repair station certificate. Have either at least 18 months of practical experience in the procedures, practices, inspection methods, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in the maintenance duties of the specific job for which the person is to be employed and certified; or completed formal training that is acceptable to the Administrator and is specifically designed to qualify the applicant for the job on which the applicant is to be employed.
