Summary Statement:
Applies advanced knowledge of principles, theories and concepts and industry standards and practices to the planning, coordination and improvement of the production processes. Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities: Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity in the planning, scheduling and manufacturing engineering fields that require judgment and ingenuity. Performs work under general management direction.
Supports production with process improvement activities, improved hand, jig and fixture tooling, process improvement and reduction of paperwork requirements. Functions as the manufacturing project manager for all assigned areas and provides technical leadership to others as required.
Participates in the lean rapid improvement events and makes individual contributions to lean manufacturing efforts focusing on reducing time and material waste from the processes. Follows up on assigned actions
Reviews and evaluates special product requests from customer for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, and specifications. Coordinates the design to meet customer requirements and discusses proposal with customer representatives, engineers, and other personnel.
Confers with management in planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. May provide tooling specifications and designs as required.
Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
Estimates production time, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.
Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
This position may provide administrative and technical leadership over other Stakeholders in the department. Ancillary Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: MANUFACTURING ENGINEER II
Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience: Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three (3) to six (6) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Level of Supervision Required: The level of supervision required described here is representative of that which must be met by a Stakeholder to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Works under very general supervision. Sound judgment, completeness and accuracy are expected.
Communication and Special Skills: Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms. Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups. Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel between facilities and operate standard office equipment. Work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week as required. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
