a small dairy operation located in Wisconsin who are searching for an Assistant Herdsman. This position is responsible for assisting the monitoring of the health of all animals on the premises and note any behavioral changes, give vaccinations and other injections as needed, treat minor injuries or illnesses as they occur, and maintain comprehensive health and production records. The Assistant Herdsman will also work closely with the veterinarian during examinations, assist with calving, and with hoof trimming. Will be responsible for heifer management and feeding of heifers. May feed adult cows from time to time. Assist with milking cows only if needed. The Assistant Herdsman must also be qualified to operate milking machines and other equipment, troubleshooting any mechanical problems or other issues as they arise. The milking parlor must be kept clean and up to the standards required by the dairy inspector. QUALIFICATIONS MUST HAVE CURRENT DAIRY EXPERIENCE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION
- Minimum Associate Degree, Bachelor`s Degree in Animal Science preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience preferred
- Strong Herd Health skills
- AI Breeding experience a plus
- Hoof Trimming experience
- Mechanical experience (milking equipment)
- Record keeping
- Computer experience Education:
University - Bachelor`s Degree/3-4 Year Degree
