Job Details:

Senior Software Engineer for Foundation Medicine, Inc. in Boston, MA to develop components of, and programmatic interfaces to, a genomics platform and analysis pipeline code base. Builds backend systems that power global production operations and research on Cloud-deployed systems. Performs application architecture, packaging and dependency management, computational scalability, messaging, database querying, and relationship modeling. Investigates design approaches. Prototypes new technologies. Evaluates technical feasibility. Develops genomics platform software applications. Establishes clear technical roadmaps to ensure the maintainability and quality of product code bases while reducing technical debt. Writes, tests, and refactors high quality software and code that is reusable, testable, efficient, clean, and well-commented. Maintains efforts for product or platform to be Cloud-native, resilient, secure, and scalable. Coaches, guides, mentors, and teaches junior team members. Drives efforts for assigned team’s adoption of established best engineering practices. Identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements including: automating manual processes, optimizing product delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability. Debugs highly complex problems escalated by other team members. Communicates with applicable stakeholders to obtain information on requirements. Provides software engineering expertise and support according to business needs. Delivers contributions in an Agile approach using Agile methodology.

Requires:

Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field plus five (5) years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer (or a closely related occupation) designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining software applications using Java and JavaScript frameworks or, alternatively, a master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer (or a closely related occupation) designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining software applications using Java and JavaScript frameworks. Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (DE) facilitating REST APIs and dependency injection using Java Spring Framework; and building user interfaces using JavaScript Frameworks—React or Next.js; DE writing SQL queries specific to relational databases; DE writing Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to facilitate event-based application models; and DE writing and maintaining Bash shell scripts.
