Senior Cloud Engineer for Foundation Medicine, Inc. in Boston, MA (Applicants permitted to work remotely from an at-home worksite from anywhere in the United States.)
Duties:
Responsible for all aspects of the AWS environment as well as FMI software deployment CI/CD pipeline, including design, provisioning, monitoring, automation, and maintenance of the infrastructure and software suite; works with internal stakeholders and customers on building and operating cloud platforms and solutions and investigates cloud incident reports; partners with development teams to maintain best practices; integrates continuous automated testing, builds and leverages infrastructure as code, and maintains and operates CI/CD pipeline software; and partners with product teams to promote DevOps principles within our AWS centric environment.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the FMI development and research teams to maintain uptime and reduce impact to patients.
- Acts as escalation point for all Cloud and DevOps platform support requests.
- Provides support and guidance for all design, build, and operational requests regarding Cloud technology.
- Participates in the Cloud Operations 24/7 On-Call rotation.
- Designs and implements solutions to streamline business processes to achieve company goals more effectively and efficiently. Ensures all designs, build processes, and operational models follow a security first mindset.
- Researches, collaborates on, and implements Cloud governance technical controls such as cost optimization and tagging.
- Creates, reviews, modifies, and updates AWS CloudFormation templates and/or Terraform scripts and contributes expertise of such with stakeholders.
- Creates, reviews, modifies, and updates any and all CI/CD pipeline and Jenkins scripts.
- Monitors, develops, and manages all DevOps platform and DevSecOps tools and processes.
- Partners directly with architects and product developers to create supportable designs, deliver projects, and debug problems. Independently researches new technologies and proposes a method to integrate them into existing technology stack.
- Develops and manages project timelines and workloads.
- Leads and mentors cloud engineers in technical and process domains.
- Delivers solutions in an Agile methodology.
- Creates and delivers presentations and documentation to the Technology team.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or a closely related field plus five (5) years of experience as a Senior Cloud Engineer (or closely related occupation) developing highly scalable Cloud solutions for genomic research or, alternatively, a Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Cloud Engineer (or closely related occupation) developing highly scalable Cloud solutions for genomic research. Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) building and delivering Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) solutions for applications using Amazon Web Services (AWS) developer tools -- AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodeCommit, AWS CodeDeploy, and AWS CodePipeline; DE architecting and implementing Cloud solutions using infrastructure tools -- Amazon Web Services (AWS Compute, Database, Analytics, and Storage services), Docker, and Kubernetes; DE installing, configuring, and deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks (CloudFormation and Terraform) to support High Performance Computing (HPC) Clusters, including software development (Python, Java, or Shell) for automating solutions; and DE architecting and implementing Source Control and Deployment orchestration configurations for automating Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) solutions and Disaster Recovery solutions for continuous uptime.
